Terms of service

Last updated: 2026-10-19

Paid takeovers are not available yet. Voice Takeover is in development and only the waitlist is open. These terms describe how paid takeovers will work, and they apply once they open. They are a draft and have not been reviewed by a lawyer.

Voice Takeover lets a viewer pay a streamer for a short message that is spoken by an AI voice in the streamer’s game, through the streamer’s own desktop app. By using Voice Takeover as a viewer or as a streamer you agree to these terms. Read the refund and cancellation policy, the content policy and the privacy notice too: they are part of the deal.

Who runs this

Voice Takeover is run by the person who runs Voice Takeover. We, us and our mean that person. Contact: hello@voicetakeover.com.

What a takeover is

A takeover is a service the streamer sells to a viewer: the viewer types a short message, pays, and, if the message passes the checks and the streamer’s app has room for it, the message is turned into speech and played into the game’s voice chat so the streamer’s character says it. The voice is an AI voice the streamer sets up. It may be a stock voice at first, and the streamer’s own cloned voice later. The viewer pays for the takeover being delivered, not for a place in a queue.

The streamer is the seller

The viewer buys from the streamer. The payment goes to the streamer’s own Stripe account, not to us, and the streamer is the seller of record. Voice Takeover provides the software and the website that connect the two, and takes a platform fee from the streamer’s side of the payment (see “Fees”). We are not a party to the sale between viewer and streamer. For a refund or a dispute about a payment, see refunds and cancellations.

For viewers

  • You can pay only while takeovers are open. The streamer’s page shows whether takeovers are open, paused or closed. If the streamer’s app is not ready, the pay button does not work.
  • Your message is checked before you pay. If it breaks the content policy you are told and asked to change it. Nothing is charged for a message that is turned away.
  • Your card is held, then charged only if your message plays. When you pay, your bank is asked to set the amount aside (an authorization). The amount is charged only if your message is played within 5 minutes. If it is not played in that time, or the streamer skips it, or the app stops, the hold is cancelled and you are not charged. Details: refunds and cancellations.
  • A takeover is not promised. The streamer can hold, skip or stop the line at any moment (for example with the panic key), and the game or the app can fail. That is why you are charged only when it plays. Having a message played in a particular scene or at a particular moment is not promised.
  • Use your own payment method, and only if you are old enough to make a purchase where you live, or have a parent or guardian’s permission.
  • You are responsible for what you write. You promise that your message follows the content policy and that you have the right to send it. You give the streamer and us permission to turn it into speech, play it, and keep a record of it for reports, refunds and disputes.

For streamers

  • Payments go through Stripe. To be paid you connect your own Stripe account and accept Stripe’s connected account agreement. Stripe checks who you are. We never hold your money.
  • You are the seller. You are responsible for the taxes on what you earn and for what happens to your Stripe balance if a payment is disputed. Refunds come out of your Stripe balance too: you agree that a payment may be refunded in the cases listed on the refunds page, and in any other case you agree to. Stripe’s card fee is not returned when a payment is refunded.
  • You stay in control. You decide when takeovers are open, and you can hold, skip or stop them at any time. You are responsible for whether using Voice Takeover is allowed on the game server you play on and under the rules of the site you broadcast on. We are not responsible for a ban or a warning from either.
  • Only a voice you may use. If you use a cloned voice, it may be only your own voice, or a voice whose owner gave you clear permission. You may not use Voice Takeover to make anyone else sound like they said something.
  • No adult content, and nothing that breaks the content policy. You may not use Voice Takeover to sell or play anything illegal.
  • Be honest with viewers. You may not trick people into paying, and you may not claim a takeover played when it did not.

Fees

The fee model is not decided. The current plan is a platform fee of 5% of each takeover payment, taken only when the payment is charged (that is, when the message played), and paid out of the streamer’s side of it. Stripe’s own card fees are charged to the streamer’s Stripe account. The fee is not final. If it changes, the new fee is shown to streamers before it applies, and the checkout page shows viewers the full amount they will pay before they confirm. The waitlist is free.

Payments and card details

Payments are handled by Stripe. When you pay, you enter your card details on Stripe’s page, and Voice Takeover never sees or stores your card number. Stripe’s own terms and privacy policy apply to what you give Stripe.

Rules we enforce

We may reject a message, remove a message, stop a viewer from using the service, or suspend a streamer’s page, if we think a rule here or in the content policy was broken or if we need to for safety or the law. If a message that broke the rules was played and charged, the payment is refunded (see refunds and cancellations). A message we stop before it plays is never charged.

No promise of uptime

Voice Takeover is software that depends on the streamer’s computer, the game, the internet and other companies’ services. It may be slow, wrong or unavailable. It is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses that come from the service not working, and our total liability to you for anything connected to the service is limited to the amount you paid for the takeover in question (for a viewer) or the fees we took from you in the last 12 months (for a streamer). Nothing here limits any right you have by law that cannot be limited.

Stopping and changes

You can stop using Voice Takeover at any time. We can change or stop the service, and we can change these terms. If a change matters, we will change the date at the top and tell streamers by email or in their dashboard before it applies to them; a viewer who keeps using the service after the change is bound by the new version.

Law and disputes

Which country’s or state’s law governs these terms, and where a dispute would be heard, will be stated here before paid takeovers open. If you have a problem, write to hello@voicetakeover.com first; most things can be fixed that way.
