Refunds and cancellations

Last updated: 2026-10-19

Paid takeovers are not available yet. Voice Takeover is in development and only the waitlist is open. This page describes how holds, cancellations and refunds will work once they open.

The short version: your card is charged only if your message is actually played. If it is not played in time, the payment is cancelled and you pay nothing.

Hold first, charge only if it plays

  1. When you pay, your bank is asked to set the amount aside. This is called an authorization or a hold. No money has moved yet.
  2. If your message plays in the streamer’s game within 5 minutes, the amount is charged (captured) and the streamer is paid through Stripe.
  3. If it does not play within 5 minutes, or the streamer skips it, or the app stops or loses its connection, or we have to turn it away, the hold is cancelled. You are not charged.

A cancelled hold costs you nothing. The message does not play after its hold is cancelled.

Why your bank may show a pending line

Some banks and card apps show a hold as a pending payment, as if it were a charge. When a hold is cancelled, that line goes away by itself; it usually disappears within 1 to 5 business days and can take up to about 7, depending on your bank. This is your bank’s timing, not ours, and we cannot speed it up. Nothing is taken from your account while the line is only pending. If it is still there after 10 business days, write to us and we will help you check.

When a payment was charged

A takeover that played is a service that has been delivered: the message was spoken in the game and cannot be taken back, so it is normally not refunded. We will refund a charged payment, in full, when:

  • you were charged but your message did not play (for example because of an error in the app or on our side);
  • you were charged more than once for the same message;
  • the payment was made without your permission (for example, someone used your card);
  • the message that played was not the one you sent; or
  • the message that played broke the content policy.

In other cases, tell us what happened. Because the streamer is the seller, a refund beyond these cases is the streamer’s decision, and we will pass your request on and help you reach an answer.

No subscriptions

Every takeover is a single payment for a single message. There is no subscription and nothing is charged again later, so there is nothing to cancel. Once you pay, the hold ends by itself within a few minutes: either as a charge (your message played) or released (it did not).

How to ask for a refund

Write to hello@voicetakeover.com and give us: the streamer’s name, the date and time (with your time zone), the amount, the last four digits of the card, and what went wrong. Please do not send your full card number. We read every request and will answer by email.

A refund goes back to the card that paid. Your bank usually shows it within 5 to 10 business days. This is also your bank’s timing.

Who is the seller

The streamer you pay is the seller of record. The payment is made to the streamer’s own Stripe account, and Voice Takeover provides the software and the website that connect you (see the terms). We plan to set the text on your card statement so that it includes “VOICETAKEOVER” and you can recognize it. The exact text depends on your bank.

Chargebacks and disputes

Please write to us before you ask your bank to reverse a payment. It is faster, and we can often fix the problem the same day. If you do dispute a charge with your bank, the dispute is made against the streamer’s Stripe account, a dispute can cost the streamer a fee, and we can give Stripe the record we keep of the takeover (when it was sent and whether and when it played) so that the dispute can be decided.

Streamers

If a payment is refunded or disputed, it comes out of the streamer’s Stripe balance, because the streamer is the seller. Our platform fee is taken only on a payment that was charged. Stripe’s card fee is not returned when a payment is refunded. What happens to the fee when a charged payment is later refunded is not decided yet and will be written here before paid takeovers open.
