How Voice Takeover works
Last updated: 2026-10-23
Voice Takeover is in development and not released yet. Only the waitlist is open, and no payment is taken on this site today. This page describes how it is being built. Details can still change before release.
A viewer donates and types a message. The message is checked, spoken in your own AI voice, and played into your game's voice chat, so your character says it. The first version is made for GTA V roleplay on FiveM, on Windows.
From donation to voice chat
-
A viewer writes a message
On your donation page, the viewer types a short message and picks an amount. You set the smallest amount and the longest message. The page shows whether takeovers are open, paused or closed right now.
-
The message is checked before anyone pays
An automatic safety check reads the message first. It looks for things like slurs, threats, sexual content, personal data and links, and it is tuned so that normal roleplay lines, such as a car chase or a robbery, are not blocked just for being part of the story. You can add your own blocked words. If the message is turned away, the viewer is told why and can change it. Nothing is charged for it.
If the safety check cannot run, for example because a service it needs is down, no message is taken and nobody is charged.
-
The viewer pays, and the card is only held
The viewer pays on Stripe's page. Their bank sets the amount aside (a hold), but no money moves yet. The payment goes to your own Stripe account. Voice Takeover never sees or stores card numbers.
-
You say yes or no, if you want to
You choose whether each message waits for your OK before it plays. When it does, a small card shows the whole message over your game, and a short sound can play in your headphones. Page Up says yes and Page Down says no, without leaving the game. If you say no, or do not answer in time, the hold is cancelled and the viewer pays nothing.
-
It becomes your voice
The message is turned into speech with an AI copy of your own voice, made only with your consent. Until your copy is ready, or if it ever fails, a stock AI voice speaks instead.
-
Your character says it
The Voice Takeover app on your PC plays the speech into the game's voice chat through a virtual microphone, and presses your push-to-talk key while it plays. Players near your character hear it, as if you had said it. Messages play one at a time, in a line.
-
The card is charged only if it played
If the message plays within 5 minutes, the amount is charged and you are paid through Stripe. If it does not play in time, or you skip it, or the app stops, the hold is cancelled and the viewer is not charged. Details are on the refunds page.
You stay in control of the mic
- Go Live. Messages play only while you have switched Go Live on in the app. It is off every time the app starts, and it switches itself off when the game is gone.
- Panic. One key stops the voice, lets go of the push-to-talk key and pauses the line at once. During setup you press it once by hand, so you know it works before you go live.
- Hold. Need a quiet moment? Messages wait in line until you let them through.
- Skip. Skip the message that is playing and move on. A skipped message is not charged.
- Alt-tab. If you switch away from the game, the message pauses and goes on when you are back (up to 30 seconds in all), so the viewer's words are not lost.
- Your filter level. Roleplay (the default) lets swearing through; Family-friendly blocks it too.
You can rebind the Panic, Hold and Skip keys.
Your voice, with your consent
Only your own voice can be used, and only after you agree to it in the app:
- You read what will happen to your voice and tick that you agree.
- You read one sentence aloud. It says your name, the date and a four-digit number that changes each time, and that you agree to an AI copy of your voice. The recording is checked against the sentence.
- You type your full legal name as your written consent.
- If you switch it on, the app collects short samples of your voice while you play. This switch is off until you turn it on.
The copy is made by our voice provider, Fish Audio. You can delete your voice, your recordings and the copy at any time, from the app or the dashboard. There is no public page where anyone can try your voice: it is only used to speak messages sent to you. The full list of what is kept, and for how long, is in the privacy notice.
What you need
- A Windows PC with FiveM. Voice Takeover is Windows only, like FiveM.
- The Voice Takeover app. Its installer also installs VB-CABLE, the virtual microphone the app uses, and a one-click setup points FiveM's voice chat at it. Setup can be undone.
- A Stripe account of your own, so viewers can pay you.
Nothing is installed on the game server, and the game's files are not changed: to FiveM, Voice Takeover is just a microphone. Check your server's rules before you use it. More on that on the page for FiveM GTA RP streamers.
What it costs
The price is not decided yet. A free mode is planned: a streamer can let signed-in viewers send free messages, with limits the streamer sets. When it comes is not decided yet. People on the waitlist hear first.
