Voice Takeover is in development and not released yet. Only the waitlist is open. These answers describe how it is being built, and details can still change before release.

Short answers for streamers and viewers. The whole flow, step by step, is on How it works.

Getting started

Which platforms does it run on?

Windows, with FiveM first.

Why Windows only?

FiveM, the first game Voice Takeover is made for, runs only on Windows, and the app works as a microphone on your Windows PC.

What do I need to set it up?

A Windows PC with FiveM, the Voice Takeover app and a Stripe account of your own so viewers can pay you. The installer also installs VB-CABLE, the virtual microphone the app uses, and a one-click setup points FiveM's voice chat at it. The setup can be undone. Being easy to set up for streamers who are not audio experts is the first goal.

Does it work on my server?

It works through the game's normal voice chat, so there is no server mod to install. Check your server's rules before you use it: many roleplay servers have rules about breaking character.

Is it allowed on roleplay servers?

That depends on the server. Many roleplay servers have rules against breaking character and against using things from the stream in the game, and a viewer's line can look like either. Read your server's rules and ask its staff before you use it. You are responsible for following them, and you can make each message wait for your OK, so you can turn down a line that would break one.

Does it change the game or need a mod?

No. Nothing is installed on the server and the game's files are not changed. To FiveM, Voice Takeover is just a microphone.

Will it work with other games?

FiveM comes first. Because the app works as a microphone, other games with voice chat may follow later, but none is promised yet.

The voice

Is it my real voice?

It's an AI clone of your own voice, made with your consent. It isn't a recording of you, and it is only used to speak the messages your viewers send.

How does the voice consent work?

In the app you read what will happen to your voice and tick that you agree. Then you read one sentence aloud with your name, the date and a four-digit number that changes each time, and the recording is checked against that sentence. You also type your full legal name as written consent. Only after that can a copy of your voice be made.

Can someone else's voice be used?

No. Only your own voice can be used, recorded by you. There is no public page where anyone can try your voice: it is only used to speak messages sent to you.

What if my voice copy isn't ready yet?

Until your copy is ready, or if it ever fails, a stock AI voice speaks the message instead.

Can I delete my voice?

Yes. You can delete your voice, your recordings and the copy at any time, from the app or the dashboard. The privacy notice lists what is kept and for how long.

Safety and control

How are messages checked?

Every message is checked before the viewer pays: first by fixed rules (for example for slurs, links, phone numbers and email addresses), then by an automatic safety check for hate, harassment, sexual content, threats and personal data. It is tuned so that normal roleplay lines are not blocked just for being violent. You can add your own blocked words and pick a filter level: Roleplay or Family-friendly. If the check cannot run, no message is taken and nobody is charged.

Can I read each message before it plays?

Yes, if you want to. You choose whether each message waits for your OK. A card with the whole message shows over your game, Page Up says yes and Page Down says no. A message you turn down, or do not answer in time, is not charged.

What if a bad message gets through?

Automatic checks make mistakes, so you keep your own controls: the Panic key stops the voice and pauses the line at once, Hold keeps messages waiting and Skip drops the one that is playing. A message that breaks the content policy can be reported to hello@voicetakeover.com, and a charged payment for it is refunded.

What do viewers see?

Your donation page, which shows whether takeovers are open, paused or closed. The viewer types a message, is told at once if it is turned away and why, and pays on Stripe's page. An optional overlay for your stream shows the donation with an "AI voice" label, so your audience knows the voice is AI.

Payments and refunds

When is the viewer's card charged?

Only if the message plays. When the viewer pays, the bank only holds the amount. If the message plays within 5 minutes, it is charged. If it does not play in time, or the streamer skips it, or the app stops, the hold is cancelled and the viewer pays nothing.

Can a viewer get a refund?

A message that played cannot be taken back, so it is normally not refunded. A charged payment is refunded in full if the message did not play, was charged twice, was paid without the card owner's permission, was not the message sent, or broke the content policy. The refunds page has the details and how to ask.

Who gets the money?

The streamer. The viewer pays the streamer's own Stripe account, and the streamer is the seller. Voice Takeover never sees or stores card numbers.

What does it cost?

Not decided yet. People on the waitlist hear first.

Will there be a free mode?

A free mode is planned: a streamer can let signed-in viewers send free messages, with limits the streamer sets. When it comes is not decided yet.
